While XML-RPC* and SOAP* are two very similar formats, they are also incompatible.
Ken MacLeod* wrote a short HOWTO on converting an XML-RPC implementation to SOAP.
One problem with them is they sort of ignore the semantic*s inherent in Web Architecture, especially HTTP*, which most implementations of XML-RPC and SOAP run on top of.
