RDF Issues

There are lots of problems that people have with RDF.

General Clarifications

• Resolve "what is a resource?", what is a URI?
• relationships between URIs and resources
  • uri<->resource mapping
  • U = Uniform, Unique or Universal?
• brokenness of fragments and anchors
• various issues by DanC
• resource vs. network entity, etc.
  • state that the URI represents the item
  • service vs. data instance
  • multiple meanings per URI?
  • WebDAV's redirect resources

Model Problems

• Is the model a set or bag? (official issue)
  • DanBri: terminology makes it look like a set
  • EricP: in a multi-user system it acts like a bag
  • bleed-over from XML-L (more)

Syntax Problems

• TimBL: parseType="Resource" should be default
• What do we do with an empty li/property?
• Should namespace information be included in XML literals?
• namespace concat issues
• improve syntax
• rdf->qname round trip (what about URIs with no qnames?)
• aboutEach in syntax but not in model (official)
• simple RDF? (subset of RDF that's easy to parse?)
• No way to end RDF:Seqs
• grammer provided is informal; needs a formal grammar
  • Dan Connolly has provided an XML Schema
  • ??? provided an attribute grammar* using XSLT*
• interesting idea from Mike Dierken*: resolving relative URIs from URI of parent -- works better in object-oriented syntax
• More problems with anonymous resources

Schema Issues

• DAML has problems with RDFS
• Is a property a class?

Community Activities

• run validation suite, monthly bakeoffs(?)
• LEAD with inclusive demos -- more interactive, inclusive, the better
• look for places to leavrage other stuff (SKICAL!, Palms)

Administrative Work (typos, etc.)

• clean up namespaces (use RDDL?)
